SING WITH US!
Do you believe that you share our passion for making quality choral music, and that your musicianship would enhance the experience of our growing community. We hope you consider reaching out to our Artistic Director and becoming involved in Alexandria’s newest choral ensemble!
Who We AreThe Mount Vernon Chamber Singers are envisioned to comprise of members who are musically skilled and passionate about choral music. Most ensembles of the caliber to which we aspire are not close by and often include a lengthy commute. Our intention is to provide singers with the opportunity to perform great choral music locally and to engage our community in the experience of hearing it. Our singers are teachers, active choir singers, recent college graduates, retirees, and working professionals. Our vision is to seek out gifted singers of a diverse background so that our ensemble’s music can reach an inclusive audience and be a positive influence on our community.

Music We PerformThe Mount Vernon Chamber Singers believe that we are living history, meaning that we get to partake in making history by performing works of our day. At the same time, choirs have the privilege and the responsibility to preserve our choral heritage through the performances of the greatest works of all time. With this dual vision, the Mount Vernon Chamber Singers will perform primarily a cappella choral works spanning from the Renaissance through modern day’s compositions, including Sacred Harp and American heritage music. Singers' CommitmentOur ensemble will meet once-per-week for two hours, currently Thursdays from 7:30-9:30, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church off the GW Parkway. In addition to that, singers are expected to look at, practice, or review the music on their own, depending on what they feel they need to be prepared for rehearsal. The current expectation is that each singer will cover the cost of their music and nominal dues. The Mount Vernon Chamber Singers are currently slated to perform three concerts throughout the season, with the hope of an extra caroling evening in December to raise money.
Our singers recognize that the Mount Vernon Chamber Singers are something special in the making. In the early days of our formation, a lot of time will be spent getting to know each other and our sound. We recognize extra effort may be needed in those areas until we feel the ground beneath us. We understand that, as a community, we are heavily committed but we are confident that being a singer in MVCS will heighten your week. |
